MICAH Condemns ICE Detainment of President of Islamic Society
Milwaukee Innercity Congregations Allied for Hope (MICAH) condemns the illegal abduction and detainment of Salah Sarsour, President of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee (ISM), a MICAH congregation.
Sarsour has been a lawful permanent resident in the United States for over 30 years. He is a pillar of the community, and a law-abiding Milwaukee business owner.
The faiths represented in MICAH all include as a cornerstone, the inherent dignity of the human person, and the sanctity of human life. The ICE raids that have become standard in this administration trample on those beliefs with a blatant disregard for the dignity and value of those persons being hunted, detained and deported. No one deserves such treatment.
MICAH congregations will pray for Salah Sarsour, all ICE detainees, and their families in a special way this weekend, as multiple faiths celebrate high holy days. Our Jewish members celebrate Passover, the commemoration of the Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, as Christians remember the passion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who was also detained and brutalized for a crime he did not commit.
MICAH congregations stand in solidarity with Sarsour’s family, friends and the Islamic community of Milwaukee. We pray for all affected by his detainment, and demand that ICE release him immediately, and return him to his home and community.
