City and County Pass We All Belong Resolutions
On Friday, February 2, 2024, City of Milwaukee Common Council President José G. Pérez joined with MICAH leaders to to announce and celebrate their shared commitment to assure that everyone in the city and county know that they are valued, respected and belong.
The Milwaukee Common Council, under the leadership of Common Council President Jose Perez, unanimously passed a resolution on October 31, 2023, in support of MICAH’s “We All Belong” Campaign.
The Milwaukee County Board, under the leadership of Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson, unanimously passed a similar resolution on January 22, 2024.
The goal of MICAH’s “We All Belong” Campaign is “to protect democracy, reject so-called ‘christian’ nationalism, and build the Beloved Community.” The “christian” nationalism movement, sometimes referred to as the white “christian” nationalism movement, is an organized effort to make the United States officially a Christian nation, and to marginalize Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, immigrants, members of the LGBT community, and racial minorities.
Rev. Joseph Ellwanger states, “MICAH’s We All Belong Campaign has as its goal, to protect democracy, reject ‘christian’ nationalism, and build the Beloved Community. The ‘christian’ nationalism movement violates our religious values and is a danger to democracy and must be stopped! MICAH, City and County leadership want to make clear that the Republican National Convention and all other visitors are welcomed to a city and county that, despite many problems, envisions and tries to build the Beloved Community, and is deeply concerned to protect democracy and reject “christian” nationalism.”
